On the northern shore of the Chepu Basin Wetlands Nature Sanctuary, lies Chimango Cara Cara, a 6-hectare property offering an authentic travel experience — elegant, rustic, and deeply connected to the nature of Chiloé.

Our story

We are Carole, French, and Alfredo, Chilean. Together with our daughter Helena, we live year-round in this rugged corner of Chiloé, surrounded by forests, rivers, and silence. We came to Chepu seeking a simpler life, closer to nature, and here we found our home… and also a purpose: to share this place with those who value calm, natural beauty, and the essentials.

This is how Chimango Cara Cara was born, a lodge created with love, where we welcome travelers looking for more than just accommodation: an authentic, warm, and genuine experience, in harmony with the spirit of Chiloé.

Absolutely lovely accommodation and home away from the hustle of the bigger towns on the other side of the island owned by a lovely family of 3 (soon to be 4!). The guest cabins are darling and cozy during the rainy season with wood stoves. The home cooking they offer in the adjoining communal guest space is lovely. Pastoral and so peaceful quiet, save for the baaa of a sheep or meow of a cat. Go for lovely company and homey/family experience. Near hiking, the ocean; further away from touristy towns (which is the point!) but near enough if you want something there.

Not mentioning fantastic views and beautiful guesthouse, also very delicious food, the main asset there are the owners - a young couple with their lovely daughter. It is impossible to describe the warmth of the atmosphere they have created. This visit will stay as the brightest highlight of our Chile trip. Highly recommended!

Les lits sont hyper confortables, la salle de repas accessible toute la journée est très belle et la vue sur la rivière Chepu est splendide au coucher du soleil notamment! Les hôtes sont très sympathiques et nous ont été d’une très grande aide pour monter la roue de secours suite à une crevaison. Nous ne pouvons que recommander chaudement ! Ils proposent une table d’hôte tous les soirs (que nous n’avons pas testé)

The cabin feels like a little haven — comfortable, private, and with the most amazing views of Rio Chepu and the forest. The level of hospitality from Alfredo and Carole made the whole experience feel extra special. Delicious breakfasts and dinners, flexibility, and great conversation. There’s clear love and intention built into this project. My partner and I loved it!
